WE CLOSED THE DOORS IN 2018 DUE TO STIFF DISHONEST COMPETITION FROM SITES LIKE AIRBNB AND HOMEAWAY. ALSO SITES LIKE TRIPADVISOR THAT USED TO BE ABOUT HONEST REVIEWS NOW SHIFTED TOWARDS FORCING SMALL BUSINESSES TO BOOK THROUGH THEM.

You will find luxury, comfort and relaxation in our recently renovated New England Saltbox. And because we learned in the past years that privacy is very important for our guests we decided to only accommodate one group at a time at our B&B. Standard we have the Thalia room available for you, which sleeps up to 4 persons. We have an extra room with a king bed and private bathroom available if necessary. You will have the exclusive use of the living and dining room and the wetbar. You will only see us at check in, unless you have questions for us or add the optional gourmet breakfast to your stay.

Birds eye view of boarding school in Kent Our bed and breakfast is located close to Kent. This town has a very nice Main Street with lots of shops, galleries, and restaurants. Bulls Bridge, one of two covered bridges open to vehicles in Connecticut, is also located in the town, the other one - West Cornwall Covered Bridge - is located to the north of Kent. Outdoor activities can be found on The Housatonic River and in Macedonia Brook State Park and Kent Falls State Park. Education plays a big role in Kent's economy with three boarding schools within its borders: The Marvelwood School, South Kent School, and Kent School.

The Spa

Relaxing Finnish sauna room Unique for a Bed and Breakfast: a private spa with three different saunas! Experience the benefits of the traditional Finnish sauna, the steam shower and the infrared sauna in the privacy of our house. If you feel uncomfortable using the public sauna in your gym or country club, this may be a nice opportunity to try out the sauna experience.

The traditional sauna (a.k.a. Finnish or dry sauna) is probably the best known: in a wooden room the air is heated by a sauna heater with rocks. You can pour water on the rocks to humidify the room a little, but the humidity level stays below 30 percent. Temperatures range from 170F to 190F. Because of the dry hot air you will sweat easily and therefore lose a lot of toxins.

Spa with saunas relaxing chairs View of relaxing wellness area wellness area with infra red sauna The steam shower (a.k.a. steam room or steam bath) uses a water generator which blows hot steam into the cabin. Temperatures will not be higher than 120F (though it may feel much hotter) and the humidity level will be 100 percent. This kind of sauna is especially recommended for people who suffer from respiratory complaints.

The infrared sauna uses infrared waves to heat your body from within. The infrared sauna works best at a temperature of approximatley 130F and is therefore very nice for people who do not like the high temperatures of the traditional sauna. Because these waves penetrate deeply into your skin, tissue and joints the infrared sauna is recommended if you are troubled by muscle or joint pain, or more chronic conditions like arthritis.

Manicure and pedicure wellness area with steam shower cabin wellness area with traditional sauna wellness area with sauna heater wellness area with relaxing chairs Whichever sauna you prefer, all saunas have in common that they offer deep relaxation, detoxification, improved blood circulation, weight reduction and skin improvement. Experience all three saunas to find out which one is your favorite. Or maybe you already know which one you like best and you can enjoy your sauna experience in a relaxing private atmosphere.

An important part of the sauna experience is the relaxation time between sauna sessions. Our spa is so spacious that we can offer you comfortable reclining chairs: sit down with a glass of water, a magazine and relax! Probably you will experience that after the second sauna session you are so relaxed that you may doze off for a little while?

MassageThe dress code. We provide bathrobes and slippers. The best way to enjoy the sauna is in your birthday suit. If you don't feel comfortable with that you can wear a swim suit or wrap a towel around you.

Warning

Not everybody can safely use a sauna! Do not use a sauna in the case of stroke, severe aortic stenosis, recent myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris, lupus erythematosus, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis and silicone implants.

Do no use a sauna if you are pregnant. Childeren under the age of 6 should not use a sauna.

Please check with your doctor before sauna use if you have a pacemaker, pins, rods and other implants. Please check with your doctor if you have diabetes, high blood pressure or any specific medical condition.

We are not physicians or sauna experts; we cannot assess whether it is safe for you to use our saunas. Using our saunas is at your own risk. By making the reservation at our B&B you waive our liability for any damage you may suffer from use of our saunas.

An optional gourmet breakfast

Dutch breakfast wrap Dutch krentenbollen Included in the room rate is a light breakfast with cereals, oatmeal, milk, yogurt, orange juice, coffee and tea available for you in our wetbar. You decide when you want to have breakfast.

But if you want to be pampered and want to experience a lavish home cooked Dutch breakfast we offer our Optional Gourmet Breakfast for only $25 per person per night. The Optional Gourmet Breakfast includes toast, jams, cream cheese, home baked pastries, fresh fruit, tea and coffee and our signature Orange Gild Breakfast Smoothie.

Dutch pastry In addition we serve two Specials of the Day: one sweet and one savory special. The Specials of the Day are all based on classic Dutch recipes. We use the recipes our grandmothers learned from their grandmothers and give them a modern twist. Poffertjes, Three-in-the-Pan and Egg Salad Cups are some examples of our original Dutch dishes. Sometimes we incorporate American influences and end up with American-Dutch fusion recipes like Wentelteefje Banana Bake, Dutch wraps and Egg Casserole; maybe the Ameri-Dutch kitchen can become a new trend!

Dutch poffertjes We serve different Specials of the Day everyday. If you book the optional gourmet breakfast with us for a couple of days you will not get the same breakfast every morning.

If necessary we can make vegetarian, lactose free or gluten free variations of our Specials of the Day. Please let us know a couple of days in advance if you have any dietary preferences. The sooner we know, the better we can serve you.

Minimum stay

During some weekends a two-night minimum stay might be required. Please contact us to find out if this is the case.

Check in/check out

Check in: after 4 pm -- Check out: before 11 am

Breakfast

A simple breakfast is included in the room rate. You will find everything in the wetbar and can choose your own time of breakfast.

If you choose our Optional Gourmet Breakfast, breakfast will be served between 8:30 and 10:30 am. We will ask you the night before at what time you would like to have your breakfast. If you have special dietary needs, please let us know before booking.

It is not possible to add the Gourmet Breakfast for a limited number of persons in your party: if you add the Gourmet Breakfast, it will be added for all persons in your party.

Payment

Because we run a small business we require full payment at the time of making the reservation. Connecticut Room Occupancy Taxes will be added to the rates and this is 11 percent.

Cancellations

Due to the small size of our business, we are greatly affected by untimely cancellations so we firmly adhere to the following cancellation policy. No exceptions.

If you cancel your reservation more than twenty eight (28) days prior to your arrival date we will refund your deposit less a $25 processing fee.

If you cancel within 28 days of your arrival date, and before your expected arrival, regardless of the circumstances, you will be charged in full for your entire reservation. Should this occur, we will issue a voucher valid for one year good towards a future stay. The voucher will be in the amount of one half (1/2) of your total cancellation charges. Reducing the length of stay or an early departure within 28 days of your arrival is considered a cancellation.

If you do not notify us and do not show, any and all applicable fees, will be charged and no voucher or refund will be issued.

Cancellation of the Optional Gourmet Breakfast is free if you cancel it more than three (3) days before your arrival: you will get a complete refund. If you cancel within 3 days before your arrival we will not refund your breakfast.

Cancellation of the use of the spa room is free until the day before your arrival. If you booked the spa room and you did not use it after all, we will not issue a refund.

Children

We do have some facilities for children under 3 years. Please contact us if you would like to stay with a small child.

Pets

We allowed pets to stay with us. But most of the time they made a mess of the room by lying on the chairs and bed (sometimes even under the covers!) so we don't do that anymore. Sorry!

Damages

You are expected to leave your room in as good a condition as it was given to you. Any damage caused by you to our home inside or outside of your room such as carpet stains, soiled furnishings, broken windows or appliances will be replaced or cleaned and will be charged to the credit card on file.

Smoking

Smoking is not allowed in any part of our house, including the guestrooms and living quarters. Be extra careful when smoking outside and make sure you don't leave any of your waste outside!

Allergy information

We have two cats. Please let us know before you arrive if you are allergic to cats, so we can thoroughly clean the living quarters and make sure our cats will not be in contact with you.

Spa use
